The new school year brought about a new program at Sheridan Technical Center – the Green Ready Certificate Program. This program prepares students to sit for the Green Associate exam offered by the USGBC and the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). The Green Associate credential denotes basic knowledge in green design, construction and operations for those interested in the LEED rating.

The program is geared toward training as an introduction into LEED and sustainable green building practices for all and will take into account exam preparation for those that want to take the LEED Green Associate and LEED-AP+exams.

Our instructor is Mrs. Olga Alvarez, ASID IIDA, LEED-AP. Mrs. Alvarez has over 30 years of experience in the design industry and has been involved with the green building movement in South Florida for the past 6 years. Mrs. Alvarez is the past president of the US Green Building Council – South Florida Chapter.

Learning Objectives for the class will include describing green building and the role of USGBC and LEED; recognizing the intents of each LEED Credit Category; explaining key sustainability terms and concepts ; identifying green building best practices; and will examine cost considerations of green building.
